Description

Inovonics EN1501-XL EchoStream Pulse Meter Transmitter with Extended-Life Battery

The Inovonics EN1501-XL Pulse Meter Transmitter is a wireless pulse-counting transmitter with an extended-life battery, designed for water, gas and electric submetering as well as other general pulse-counting applications. Compatible with virtually any qualifying pulse-output device, the EN1501-XL counts pulses generated by the connected meter and transmits usage information through a compatible Inovonics EchoStream® 902–928 MHz wireless system. Its factory-installed, non-replaceable long-life battery helps reduce maintenance visits and long-term operating costs in multifamily, commercial and utility-monitoring installations.

Product Overview

The EN1501-XL connects to a compatible meter or other pulse-output device and records each qualifying contact closure as a pulse. This allows water, gas, electric and other consumption information to be transmitted wirelessly to supported Inovonics receiving and data-collection equipment without requiring conventional communication wiring between the meter and the system receiver.

The XL model provides the same essential pulse-counting function as the standard EN1501 but incorporates a Panasonic BR-AG non-replaceable lithium battery. Inovonics calculates battery life at approximately 20 years when operated between 70°F and 90°F, making it especially useful for large submetering deployments where reducing battery-replacement visits is a priority.

Key Features

  • Pulse-counting transmitter for water, gas and electric submetering
  • Compatible with virtually any qualifying pulse-output device
  • Works with compatible Inovonics TapWatch® submetering equipment
  • EchoStream® 902–928 MHz frequency-hopping spread-spectrum technology
  • Factory-installed Panasonic BR-AG long-life lithium battery
  • Calculated battery life of approximately 20 years at 70°F to 90°F
  • Case tamper protection helps identify unauthorized housing access
  • 60-minute transmitter check-in interval

EN1501 vs. EN1501-XL: What Is the Difference?

The primary difference between the two models is the battery configuration:

  • EN1501: Uses a replaceable Panasonic CR123A battery with a typical battery life of approximately 10 years in a climate-controlled environment.
  • EN1501-XL: Uses a factory-installed, non-replaceable Panasonic BR-AG lithium battery with a calculated life of approximately 20 years at 70°F to 90°F.

Choose the EN1501-XL when extended service life and fewer battery-maintenance visits are more important than having a field-replaceable battery.

Pulse-Output Compatibility Requirements

Before ordering the EN1501-XL, confirm that the connected meter or counting device meets the required pulse-output specifications:

  • Dry-contact output, such as a reed switch
  • Activated pulse width of at least 10 milliseconds
  • Closed impedance below 1 kΩ
  • Open impedance greater than 5 MΩ
  • Pulse rate must remain within the limits specified by current Inovonics installation documentation

Common Applications

  • Multifamily water, gas and electric submetering
  • Commercial utility-consumption monitoring
  • TapWatch® wireless submetering systems
  • Remote collection of meter pulse counts
  • Replacement or expansion of compatible Inovonics meter networks
  • General counting applications using a compatible dry-contact pulse output

Compatibility & Ordering Guidance

The EN1501-XL must be used with compatible Inovonics EchoStream® receiving and data-collection equipment. Before ordering, verify the meter’s pulse-output characteristics, the required system receiver or gateway, the regional operating frequency and the application’s programming requirements. Because the XL battery is not replaceable, the complete transmitter must be replaced when the battery reaches the end of its service life. Actual battery longevity can be reduced by temperatures outside the manufacturer’s specified 70°F to 90°F calculation range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Inovonics EN1501-XL used for?
The EN1501-XL counts pulses generated by compatible water, gas, electric and other pulse-output devices and wirelessly communicates the usage information through a supported Inovonics system.

How long does the EN1501-XL battery last?
Inovonics calculates a battery life of approximately 20 years when the transmitter is operated between 70°F and 90°F. Higher temperatures can reduce battery life, and actual service life depends on environmental and operating conditions.

Can the EN1501-XL battery be replaced?
No. The EN1501-XL contains a factory-installed Panasonic BR-AG lithium battery that is not field replaceable. The transmitter must be replaced when the battery reaches the end of its service life.

Is the EN1501-XL compatible with every utility meter?
No. The connected device must provide a compatible dry-contact pulse output that meets Inovonics’ electrical and pulse-timing requirements.

Does the EN1501-XL work with TapWatch systems?
Yes. The EN1501-XL is designed for use with compatible Inovonics TapWatch® submetering equipment and supported EchoStream wireless infrastructure.
