Description
Paxton P75 Proximity Reader with Genuine HID® Technology – 400-175-US
The Paxton P75 Proximity Reader with Genuine HID® Technology™, model 400-175-US, is a full-size 125 kHz access control reader designed for use with the Paxton Net2 access control system and compatible third-party systems through optional Wiegand output. Pre-activated at the factory for Genuine HID Technology™, the reader recognizes compatible HID® 125 kHz proximity ISO-compliant credentials without requiring a separate HID technology activation license.
With its IPX7-rated construction, included 3-meter cable, clear red and green LED indication, and broad operating temperature range, the Paxton P75 provides dependable credential reading for commercial entrances, schools, healthcare facilities, industrial buildings, offices, apartment communities, and other indoor or exterior access control applications. Its larger 75 mm reader profile provides a highly visible credential presentation point while maintaining the clean appearance associated with Paxton P-Series readers.
Pre-Activated for HID® 125 kHz Proximity Credentials
The 400-175-US reader is supplied with Genuine HID Technology™ already activated. No additional license is required for the reader to recognize supported HID® 125 kHz proximity credentials. A separate Paxton Wiegand activation card is required only when the reader will be configured to transmit Wiegand output to a compatible third-party access control panel.

Designed for Paxton Net2 Access
The P75 reader is designed for direct connection to a compatible Paxton Net2 access control unit. When a credential is presented, the reader sends the credential information to the controller, where the user’s access permissions, schedules, and system status are evaluated.
If access is granted, the reader’s green LED flashes. If the credential is denied, the red LED flashes. This clear visual feedback helps users immediately understand whether their credential has been accepted while allowing system administrators to manage permissions through the Net2 software platform.
Optional Wiegand Output for 3rd-Party Systems
The Paxton P75 may also be used with compatible third-party access control systems by enabling its Wiegand output. This capability requires the separate purchase and application of a Paxton Wiegand activation card.
When enabled, the reader transmits the credential’s Wiegand card data without truncation. Before ordering the reader for a third-party system, verify the controller’s Wiegand input requirements, supported credential formats, voltage requirements, wiring configuration, and programming capabilities.
Genuine HID® 125 kHz Technology
The P75 400-175-US is engineered to read supported proximity credentials containing Genuine HID Technology™ operating at 125 kHz. These may include compatible ISO proximity cards and other supported HID proximity credential styles used in legacy and established commercial access control systems.
The reader’s HID credential-reading functionality is activated before shipment. Buyers do not need to purchase a separate Genuine HID Technology™ license simply to use supported HID 125 kHz credentials with a Paxton Net2 system. The separate activation requirement applies only to optional Wiegand output.

Installation Guidance
The Paxton P75 is supplied with approximately 3 meters of cable and should be wired according to the labeling and instructions provided with the compatible Paxton control unit. The cable exits from the center rear of the reader, helping installers position the cable opening and mounting holes accurately.
- Install readers at least 300 mm, or approximately 12 inches, apart.
- Do not install proximity readers directly back-to-back.
- Avoid mounting directly on metal whenever possible.
- Metal surfaces may reduce credential read range.
- Test the final read range before completing the installation.
- Keep the reader away from other proximity readers and RF equipment.
- Use approved cable when extending the supplied reader cable.
- Follow applicable electrical, fire, life-safety, and building codes.
Professional installation is recommended. Reader positioning, controller wiring, lock power, cable routing, grounding, system programming, and credential compatibility should be evaluated by a qualified access control professional.
Important Compatibility and Ordering Guidance
Confirm that your access control system requires the Paxton P75 with Genuine HID Technology™, sales code 400-175-US. Paxton manufactures several P-Series readers, including standard Paxton proximity versions and models designed for Genuine HID Technology™. Readers that appear similar may not support the same credential technology.
This reader is intended for compatible HID 125 kHz proximity credentials. It is not a 13.56 MHz smart card reader and should not be assumed to read HID iCLASS®, MIFARE®, DESFire®, SEOS®, mobile credentials, or other high-frequency technologies unless separately confirmed by the manufacturer.
When using the reader with a third-party access control panel, verify that Wiegand activation has been purchased and applied, and confirm that the receiving panel supports the credential format being presented. Credential technology, bit format, facility code, card number range, and panel programming are separate compatibility considerations.
Why Choose the Paxton P75 HID Proximity Reader?
The P75 provides a practical solution for organizations that want to combine the straightforward management of a Paxton Net2 system with an existing population of compatible HID 125 kHz proximity credentials. Its pre-activated HID functionality eliminates the need for an additional credential-reading license, while optional Wiegand output provides flexibility for selected third-party controller applications.
Its IPX7-rated construction, broad operating temperature range, included cable, visible credential presentation area, replaceable fascia, and simple LED feedback make it suitable for demanding commercial environments. For facilities migrating to Net2 while retaining established HID proximity cards, the P75 can help reduce the need to immediately replace the existing credential population.

Paxton P75 400-175-US Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Paxton P75 read HID® proximity cards?
Yes. Model 400-175-US is manufactured with Genuine HID Technology™ and reads supported HID 125 kHz proximity credentials, including compatible ISO-compliant proximity cards.
Is an activation license required to read HID credentials?
No. The reader is pre-activated for Genuine HID Technology™. No separate activation license is required for supported HID 125 kHz credential reading.
Does the P75 provide Wiegand output?
Wiegand output is available, but it requires the separate purchase and application of a Paxton Wiegand activation card. When enabled, card data is transmitted without truncation.
Can the P75 be installed outdoors?
Yes. The reader carries an IPX7 rating and is suitable for exterior use when installed according to Paxton’s instructions and applicable electrical and building requirements.
How much cable is included?
The P75 is supplied with approximately 3 meters of reader cable. Use Paxton-approved cable specifications when an extension is required.
Can it be mounted on metal?
Metal may reduce proximity read range. Avoid direct metal mounting where possible and test the credential read distance after installation. A different reader style may be more appropriate for applications requiring direct metal mounting.
How far apart should proximity readers be installed?
Paxton recommends installing readers at least 300 mm, or approximately 12 inches, apart. Readers should not be installed back-to-back because RF interference can reduce performance.
Does the P75 read iCLASS®, MIFARE® or DESFire® cards?
This model is specified for supported HID 125 kHz proximity technology. It should not be assumed to read 13.56 MHz smart card technologies such as iCLASS, MIFARE, DESFire or SEOS.
What fascia color is included?
The P-Series reader is supplied with a black fascia. Replacement fascias are available in black and white/gray.
